Perth's Best Beaches

If there is one thing that Perth is renowned for, it’s the beaches. This city has some of the best of the best: white sand, cool blue ocean water, and hot summer weather create a beachside experience unlike any other city in Australia. And, the best part is that Perth is the sunniest city in Australia, with nearly 150 days each year boasting clear skies and sunshine. So, if you’re in Perth, you’ll likely want a beach day or two, which is why we’ve compiled this handy guide to help you on your way.

Cottesloe Beach

Cottesloe Beach is one of the most iconic spots in Western Australia. In fact, some say that it’s Perth’s answer to Bondi Beach. With beautiful white sand, an incredible coastline, and perfectly blue water, it’s easy to see why this location is the most popular in Perth. Both locals and tourists flock here during the summer months. We recommend lathering on some sunscreen and spending an afternoon enjoying the waves before watching the sun descend over the Indian Ocean.

Scarborough Beach

It’s often said that the two most popular beaches in Perth are Cottesloe and Scarborough. And it’s clear to see why Scarborough claims a top spot.  With enviable white sand and pristine blue surf surrounded by the city skyline, it’s a visual feast. The beach front has all the amenities you could want and is lined with cafes, restaurants, bars, surf shops, and hotels.

City Beach

City Beach is a beautiful escape from the northern suburbs of Perth. It’s a favourite amongst city dwellers, due to the ease of location, plus the stunning sights as soon as you set a foot down in the sand. Take a trip here during the workday, and you’ll find the lunchtime busy and bustling as workers flock for a midday dip in the fabulously blue ocean.

Bathers Beach

Bathers Beach is a lovely calm escape with beautiful ocean water that boasts fantastic swimming conditions all year round. The beach is also unique due to its rich culture and heritage,  surrounded by sites like the Fishing Boat Harbour, the Maritime Museum, and the Shipwreck Galleries, just to name a few. Perhaps spend the morning checking out the sites before heading to the beach for an afternoon by the ocean. If you’re in need of refreshment, make a trip to Bathers Beach House, Perth’s only beachfront venue.

Rottnest Island.
Rottnest Island

Now, technically, this isn’t in Perth. In fact, it’s an island located just 19-kilometres off the coast of Perth. But, it is absolutely breathtaking, so if you’re on holiday in the capital of Western Australia, we do recommend you take a day trip to Rottnest Island. This island has a whopping 63 beaches and 20 bays, all of which you could easily spend a day on. There are vibrant reefs, beautiful blue seas, white sands, and the lovable, smiley Quokka. What more could you want?
