Car Rental Merimbula Airport

We’re here at Merimbula Airport with Thrifty. Part of the Sapphire Coast, Merimbula is a coastal town full of friendly locals, rugged ocean beaches, and beautiful lakes. Merimbula got its namesake from a local Aboriginal word meaning ‘two lakes’, so expect to spend time at Merimbula Lake and Back Lake while you’re here.

Merimbula has a warm and temperate climate. However, it is a town that experiences quite a bit of rainfall, even in the dry winter months. But, don’t worry - just pack a rain jacket and you’ll be good to go!

Merimbula and the Sapphire Coast are both dreamy locations. Located halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, it’s filled with wild and rugged landscapes, secluded beaches, and plenty of nature. In fact, if you visit in the winter months you can take advantage of the fact that Merimbula is one of the best whale-watching spots in Australia. Catch the humpbacks on their annual migration and marvel at their natural highway - it sure is mesmerising.

The Town of Merimbula, with Thrifty

Merimbula is full of natural delights. We recommend packing some comfy runners as you’ll be doing plenty of exploring while you’re in town.

Of course, one of the main reasons you’re here is probably the beaches of Merimbula. A cool surf town, Merimbula is home to plenty of beaches. Check out Merimbula Main Beach, which is a 6-kilometre stretch of coast. This is a favourite spot for surfers, so if you’re a fan of catching the waves, this beach is for you! Another great spot for surfing is Short Point: it has consistent waves and has one of the best viewpoints on the whole Sapphire Coast. Of course, for those that want a simple swim and snorkel without the waves, head to Bar Beach. This is a great spot for families and those that want a chilled-out beach day.

There are plenty of local spots to explore while you’re here. Take a stroll around Merimbula Lake on the Merimbula Boardwalk, where you’ll find not only great views but also plenty of informational posts on the local marine life. Head inland for the Goodenia Rainforest Walking Track, which is a unique part of this area of New South Wales. Keep an ear out for the lyrebird while you’re walking through.

There are plenty of options for food and drink while you’re staying in Merimbula. Start the day at The Waterfront Cafe, nosh MERIMBULA, or Cranky Cafe, where the coffee is great and the views even more so. Enjoy dinner at Ritzy Wine Tapas Bar or Wheeler’s Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar, which has plenty of delicious seafood options.

Explore the Sapphire Coast, with Thrifty

Merimbula is part of the Sapphire Coast, which is one of the most picturesque places in New South Wales.

Drive out to Ben Boyd National Park, which boasts 47 kilometres of rocky and rugged coastline, calm waters, and coastal hikes. Ben Boyd is split into two distinct areas, so you’ll have the best of both worlds while you’re here. Take in the awesome folded red rocks that are in stark contrast to the blue sea below while you’re walking along one of the many coastal tracks. We love the Pinnacles Loop track or Pambula River for a short stroll. If you’re feeling brave, take the unforgettable Light to Light walk, where you’ll see some incredible sights.

However you choose to spend your time in Merimbula, we know it’ll be a fantastic trip. This coastal town is one of extreme natural beauty, so try your best to take it all in as you explore. There is always something to do in this coastal town, whether it’s heading out to the beach, or driving through to a nearby national park. We can’t wait to see you soon, at Merimbula Airport Thrifty!
