Car Rental Bendigo Downtown

Bendigo is the heart of regional Victoria. It sits within driving distance of a number of towns and regional areas that make for great day trips or stops along the way on your regional Victorian road trip. Bendigo is full of attractions and places to drive; as a tourist hot spot and a city with a long history, you will never be short of activities.

It was the gold rush in Victoria that gave Bendigo its wealth and incredible architecture, with a great many heritage-listed buildings in the area. Within your rental car you can visit many of the significant heritage sites in Bendigo, such as the Town Hall, Sacred Heart Cathedral, the suburb of Eaglehawk and its courthouse, the Soldiers Memorial Institute Military Museum, the Bendigo Magistrates' Court and the Buda Historic Home & Garden. All these heritage locations and more are within a short drive of Bendigo Downtown.

For a truly unique experience, drive to the picturesque suburb of Eaglehawk, a former goldfields community, once an independent borough 8 kilometres north of Bendigo; it is now a suburb of the city and a 10-minute drive from downtown. Bendigo has done a marvellous job of not letting its heritage sites go to waste. What once were town halls, banks, and hotels are now bars, restaurants, pubs and cinemas. The old Town Hall is now the community-run Star Cinema. Enjoy an arthouse, foreign or classic film with local wine or boutique beer. It is a unique movie experience, so if you are a cinephile, mark this on your to-do list for Bendigo, you won't regret it.

The Bendigo Art Gallery showcases works and exhibitions from local, Australian and international artists. In addition, the gallery often holds special events and talks. Check out the museum's website to see what events, talks, and exhibitions are on during your time in Bendigo. Many of the galleries and studios also have interactive classes, such as painting and pottery classes.

No heritage site goes to waste in Bendigo; it is simply repurposed for a new beginning. Managed by the city council, the Post Office Gallery is an art gallery located in the historic Bendigo Post Office. Home to the gallery, visitor centre and Living Arts Space, it has a unique atmosphere. The gallery presents works that showcase the history of the region and its colourful past. The visitors centre is also a quick and easy way to find out what is on at each of the other museums, galleries, cinemas, and other venues during your time in Bendigo.
