Car Rental Geraldton City

Geraldton is filled with natural wonders and fun activities. Just a 12-minute drive from the airport, the city centre is home to heritage sites, museums, galleries, monuments and more. The hot spot of the city is the esplanade, with a stunning beach and crystal-clear waters - it is easy to spend a whole day on the shores walking to the various stores and restaurants.

Geraldton is a fantastic place to visit any time of the year with warm winter months; in fact, it barely gets below 20 degrees in winter and can often be as high as 33 during the ‘colder months’. So, if you’re tired of the rainy, chilly days where you’re from, take a trip to Geraldton. Geraldton has everything you would expect from a coastal town, with excellent dining options, boutique and large-scale shopping, live music and other entertainment, all adding to the incredible natural environment.

Take your rental car to one of the ferry depots and enjoy a ferry ride 60 kilometres offshore to enjoy one of the best snorkelling experiences on earth. The Abrolhos Islands are stunning marine islands off the coast of Geraldton. The Islands total at 122 and contain 35 species of bird, 140 species of native flora and are an important natural habitat for the Australian sea lion. You can also see the Batavia shipwreck, the number one diving location in all of Western Australia, as well as several coves and inlets. It is a must-visit attraction during your time in Geraldton. The islands stretch for over 100 kilometres, so coming back and seeing a different section is always on the top of agenda for returning travellers.

There’s Plenty to do in Geraldton with a Car Hire

The Museum of Geraldton is a great experience for the whole family, with unusual exhibits, including a 3D film that tours the Wrecks of HAMS Sydney (II) and HSK Kormoran. Learn the history of Australia’s most tragic naval disaster when the HMAS Sydney was sunk off the coast of Geraldton - this remarkable exhibition is not to be missed. Entry into the museum is free, but donations are appreciated.

The Geraldton Regional Art Gallery and Visitors Centre is housed in the former town hall, a stunning federation era building. The building has been extensively updated and upgraded to provide visitors with a world-class gallery experience. Take the chance to see artworks from local, national and international artists. You will also find the City of Greater Geraldton’s art collection. At certain times the space holds special events, including artists talks and workshops. With free entry but encouraged donations, it is a great way to double sight-seeing. The visitors centre has everything you need to discover Geraldton in your rental car. Everything is within driving distance, so see what events, talks, shows and other activities are on during your time in Geraldton.

Your Rental Car Can Take You to Some Fantastic Natural Wonders in Geraldton

Geraldton is surrounded by national parks and reserves. Many of these parks showcase the wonderful wildflowers that have made Geraldton the gateway to see over 12,000 species of wildflowers. It is a jaw-dropping visual that can be seen best at the Chapman River Regional Park and the Mullewa and Coalseam Conservation Park. 60% of these flowers are native to the area and found nowhere else on earth. The best time to see them is from July to October.

Take in Pink Lake, a short drive (one hour) from the city centre. Deriving its colour from the local algae, it constantly changes colour depending on the time of day and month of the year. See this along with other forests, natural pools and rivers, and of course, the world-class beaches.
