Just 38 kilometres away from Rockhampton CBD is Yeppoon, which is the gateway to the Capricorn Coast. This is the coast that has direct access to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, so if you’re looking for an incredible experience, drive over and book a boat trip. The Great Barrier Reef is about 2,300 kilometres long in total, and this section covers the bottom of it, so if you’ve been to another section on the coast, be prepared to experience the lesser-known areas. Alternatively, you could head to the islands around the Reef, like Pumpkin, Wilson, Heron, Great Keppel, Lady Musgrave, and Lady Elliot, for a day with a bit of a difference.
